The likelihood of finding a matching source of any use at three in the morning the night before it was due, well they were non-existent. I will say it's not the conservatism I take issue with; I'm libertarian, I tend to think of Republicans as liberal.<BR/><BR/>My issue is with them always seeing their political ideologies as part of their Christianity, and then being far more vocal about them than their faith. If you believe in a Christian worldview, and that is what dictates political conservatism, then how come that's the only part of your worldview that your faith is speaking to?<BR/><BR/>As far as rebranding being the only suggestion, I'd say that's false. They do make a point to say that we shouldn't change our beliefs, or make them subject to public opinion. If we believe homosexuality is a violation of Biblical sexuality laws, then we don't change that because it's less popular. <BR/><BR/>We change our attitude, not just our image: we're supposed to love people, and by golly we aren't. The core issue is not how we're perceived, but why we're perceived wrongly: Namely, that we aren't being Christlike, at all.<BR/><BR/>My biggest criticism of the book was that exact point, though: So now what?! Which they cover, but not nearly enough.<BR/><BR/>Read it, don't buy it. Oh, and feel free to skip all of the middle chapters, which cover the actual individual reasons. Basically, the first two chapters and the last chapter are useful, the rest of them are just examples and research on each of the specific points. I already believed most of what the research found, like you said. So why do I need to be convinced. <BR/><BR/>I think this book was written for middle-ages pastors and the like. My question for you, as someone who has read the book, is this: I've heard accusations that the authors suggest that we don't need to, say, stop being ignorant and hateful of homosexuality but rather we need to work on our <I>image</I> as ignorant and hateful of homosexuality. That is, we don't need to actually do anything different, we just need a "re-branding," so to speak.<BR/><BR/>Is that a valid criticism? Even if it isn't, I don't think I'll be investing in a copy. You don't have to be a genius to understand that people perceive of Christians as hypocrites, homophobes, overwhelmingly politically conservative, etc., and I think if you have to read a book to discover these things you're already too far out of touch with mainstream American culture. I think I will use several of these statements in the future.<BR/><BR/>I also want to point out that the Apostle responsible your your conversion and mine (Paul) uses the evangelism method that you describe here. that is why we have so many letters from him. He would go into a place (like Rome) and convert and deciple a few there and then leave those few to go out and preach the Gospel to their own people. I think you are right when you say that this is the est form of missions.
